CoPays and Services

I recently had a bad experience with someone who was upset that he had to pay 3 copays for the time I worked on scoring the testing results and writing the report he wanted for his records and the referring physician. He was upset and said he only had to pay a copay for the two office visits and that any report would be covered as an ancillary service to the visit. This is not true for psychologists.

Psychologists are different than medical doctors. We are not able to see someone for only 5-10 minutes, charge them several hundred dollars, and then write reports from that money. We have to see people for hours, then score the tests, then write the reports. We are able to bill insurance by the hour, but the client also needs to pay his/her portion of that bill (the copays).

Psychologists cannot be expected to spend 6 hours doing the testing, scoring, and report and then only bill for 2 office visits (which for some insurances would only be about $45 per visit)...Psychologists need to make a living for their families too.

So, remember that when you are doing a psychological evaluation that is paid for by insurance, you need to pay your part of the bill--the copays...

Traveling Psychologist

I enjoy traveling to various locations in the state of Utah to do psychological evaluations. If you work for DCFS, JJS, or DSPD, I am willing to drive to other parts of the state in order to do the testing. Generally, I ask that you have at least 2 kids to test if I have to drive more than 2 hours.

My other hobby is photography, so it is nice to see new places.

New Contacts - Learning Disorder Testing

I was recently contacted by an administrator at Mountainville Academy in Alpine, Utah to help out with psychological testing for learning disorders. I will do the IQ testing (WISC-IV) and academic achievement testing (WIAT-II). I look forward to working with them.

I was also contacted by Shelly Hatch with the Dyslexia Center of Utah to do similar testing. I appreciate the opportunity to work with them.

DSPD Evaluations

I appreciated the referrals from DSPD last month. Now that the state of Utah has cut the budget for DSPD, and families are responsible to cover the cost of the requalification/recertification testing, I am still willing to do it for the rate of $297. Contact me at houstonryan@hotmail.com for more information.
